Source: Crawfordsville Star Nov 19, 1896

Henry Winton died Tuesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Gilliland, 7 miles south of Crawfordsville on the Terre Haute Pike. He was 72 years old. He had been in bad helath for a long time, but his death was hastened by a fall down a staircase about a week ago in which he received severe injuries. Mrs. GIlliland is his daughter and with her he has made his home for several years, his wife having died several years ago. He was one of the oldest citizens. He was a painter by trade but had long since been out of business. He was post master in the IOOF Order. That order will have charge of the funeral at 1 o'clock Thursday at the Gilliland home. Mr. Winton was a kindly man and those who knew him best will always remember him with kindliest pleasure. He had two surviving children, Mrs. GIlliand and John Winton. His body will be buried at Oak Hill. - transcribed by kbz
